Welcome!

Welcome to Calvary Baptist Church. Since 1862, we have been a congregation committed to living out the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the heart of Washington, DC. We’re located at the corner of 8th and H Streets NW, just around the corner from the Chinatown gate and the Gallery Place Metro stop. We hope that you feel welcome to join our community of faith in person anytime!

Here at Calvary we say we are an ecumenical, multi-racial, multi-ethnic Christian body that reaches out to the world with the Good News of Jesus Christ. To that end, we strive to be welcoming, responsive, trusting and prayerful in everything we do—and we really mean it.

Worship begins at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings and is a spirit-filled liturgical style service. (Learn more here.) Our services are in-person aside from those Sundays which fall on a federal holiday weekend, when we hold worship virtually on Zoom. We also stream the service each week to Facebook Live. Worship inspires and equips us to go into the world to make God’s will present here on earth, to bring about God’s justice and to share God’s love whenever and with whomever we can. After worship, we gather in Woodward Hall (next to the sanctuary) or on Zoom for Fellowship Hour where we greet each other and catch up. We would be honored to have you visit with us to get to know you better.

Check out our Christian education classes, small discussion groups, monthly Calvary Conversations on social justice issues and special congregational life celebrations—on Sundays and throughout the week. With every experience of this community you can expect to be encouraged, taught, fed, challenged and, most of all, loved.

To be thoughtful and committed about who we are means more than adhering to a set of beliefs or practicing a list of behaviors. Following Jesus is a whole-life proposition, one into which we pour our best selves and everything we have, and challenge each other to do the same.

Welcome to the adventure of faith; we’ll be looking for you!
