August 11, 2013 Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost 11:00 a.m.

We are an ecumenical, multi-racial, multi-ethnic Christian body that reaches out to the world with the Good News
of Jesus Christ. To that end we strive to be welcoming, responsive, trusting and prayerful in everything we do.

GATHERING SONG GATHER US IN

We are the young—our lives are a mystery; we are the old, who yearn for your face.
We have been sung throughout all of history, called to be light to the whole human race.
Gather us in—the rich and the haughty; gather us in—the proud and the strong;
give us a heart so meek and so lowly; give us the courage to enter the song.

CALL TO WORSHIP John Appiah-Duffell
We believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ, who came to free the captives,
heal the sick, and proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God.
We believe in the story of God’s love, which is told to us by our ever creating God.
We believe in a continually caring Christ, whose example
encourages us to risk ourselves for the sake of the gospel.
We believe in a continually healing Holy Spirit, whose power
enables us to share the story of God’s love.
We believe in a continually caring community called the Church,
which physically lives out the story of God’s love.
We believe in participating in the great calling we have—to live out the gospel in the world. Let us worship God!

PRAYER John Appiah-Duffell

PASSING THE PEACE OF CHRIST John Appiah-Duffell
La paz del Señor sea contigo. Y contigo también.
The peace of the Lord be with you. And also with you.

CALL TO PRAYER TAKE, O TAKE ME AS I AM

Take, O take me as I am; summon out what I shall be; set your seal upon my heart and live in me. (repeat)

PRAYER Susan Sevier
Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

But still my soul feels heaven bound. Comin’ for to carry me home. Refrain.

or to join our family of faith. If you are interested in membership or have questions about Calvary,

SONG OF INVITATION ¡CUÁN GRANDE ES ÉL ! /
HOW GREAT THOU ART

Señor mi Dios, al contemplar los cielos,
el firmamento y las estrellas mil;

O Lord, my God! When I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds Thy hands have made,
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee; How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee; How great Thou art, how great Thou art
WELCOMING NEW MEMBERS Amy Butler

We give thanks that you have been guided by the hand of God to this community of faith.
We pledge to love each other and to work to grow into the fullness of Christ together. Amen.

FINAL BLESSING AND BENEDICTION SONG Amy Butler/MAKE US ONE

Make us one, Lord, make us one; Holy Spirit, make us one.
Let your love flow so the world will know we are one in you. (repeat)

WORSHIP
CALVARY UNPLUGGED: THE MEN OF JUDGES For six weeks this summer we gather in Woodward Hall for worship, to participate in a less formal holy time together. Our theme this year is the book of Judges—more specifically, the men of Judges! Six storytellers from our congregation will guide us. The book of Judges introduces us to some very interesting men, to say the least. And Calvary has many gifted and theologically trained members. So Unplugged is a perfect opportunity to hear from them in worship. Join us for riveting Biblical texts and talented storytellers, all summer long!

TODAY
COMBINED ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL This summer we’re studying Christian words that have lost their meaning and power, and how they can be restored. Join us Sundays at 9:45 a.m. in the Chapel. Contact Daniel Alcazar, daniel.alcazar@gmail.com or Myra Houser, myra.ann.houser@gmail.com. Topics and teachers include:
