Fall Programming, 2013

Check out the activities going on at Calvary this Fall!

Small Groups, Fall 2013

Monday Night Basketball. Join us every second Monday, starting September 23, at 6:00 p.m. for basketball in the gym! Whether you’ve played basketball before or not, we would love to get a team together. Contact Jason Smith, jsmith@calvarydc.org.

Theology on Draft resumes Tuesday, September 24. A lot of people talk about evangelicals and evangelicalism, but what does it mean? Do you identify as evangelical? Is it more of a political or religious statement? Join us for Theology on Draft Tuesdays from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Café at Calvary on G3 as we encounter these questions and search for answers. For more information contact Rachel Johnson (rnoelj@gmail.com) or Jay Mayfield (mayfieldjay@gmail.com).

Wednesday Night Words resumes September 25, 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Café at Calvary on G3. This fall we’re focused on two books: Do Not Live Afraid: Faith in a Fearful World, by John Indermark and Philip Gulley’s If The Church Were Christian. Contact Pastor Amy, abutler@calvarydc.org.

Young Adult Group. Our next adventure is apple-picking on Saturday, October 5. Join us also for a young adult lock-in, November 2-3. Contact Myra Houser, myra.ann.houser@gmail.com or Rachel Johnson, rnoelj@gmail.com.

Friday Holistic Health Project With an emphasis on spiritual and physical wellness, the Holistic Health Group meets each Friday, 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the Teen Room for Zumba (G3), and in the gym for indoor soccer (GB). Contact Jason Smith.

The Mission Board and the Board of Christian Education have exciting events coming up in the fall, starting with the Shalom Scholarship Lunch on September 29, the Yard Sale for the Shalom Scholarship October 16-20, and more. Journey: A Thinking Class Meets in the Library, moving to the Café at Calvary the end of September. For 12 weeks, we study with John Dominic Crossan as he presents his life’s work exploring the matrix of Jesus’ unique time and place. Drawing on scholarly texts, excavation and history, Dr. Crossan introduces us to the flesh and blood people who shaped the world into which Jesus was born. In these DVD presentations, we meet a Jesus we’ve not known before.

Music Opportunities Each Sunday

Sanctuary Choir rehearses at 9:45 a.m. in the Sanctuary.

Music for Kids meets 12:30–1:00 p.m. in the Music Suite. All ages are welcome—parents too!

Festival Choir will meet in November to prepare for Advent.
