We’re Sabrina Jawed and Tom Vanaskie. We started attending service at Calvary the fall of 2009, often picking the pews farthest from the pulpit. We experienced an epiphany during the epic snowstorm of December 2009, when we trekked through the snow (full disclosure, only about four blocks) to share service and communion with a handful of other brave Calvary goers. It was this service that made us realize how close-knit the Calvary community was. A mere two and a half years later, after making a commitment to each other in December of 2011, we also committed ourselves to Calvary in May of 2012.
We still sit in the back pews, but we’ve had the pleasure of joining Theology on Draft and getting to know some of our fellow church members better. We hope to continue to contribute to Calvary, and are always learning more about the many ways Calvary is active and present in our community. We are constantly inspired by those around us, and the message of community, acceptance, and love that Calvary exudes. Calvary is a place that encourages and celebrates individualism, and we have grown in our faith by learning about the personal paths of those that gather with us.
We hope Calvary continues to encourage each member’s personal journey while fostering a community of faith whose reach extends far beyond the sanctuary.
